Youth Tennis Programs
SRC is dedicated to an ambitious youth program. “Our goal is to invite the youth on the Sunshine Coast to play tennis and learn just how much fun this sport can be,” says Tamara Jacobsen who heads up the youth program for SRC. It has been a resounding success.
Each year, 250-350 students participate in tennis clinics during physical education classes and after school. Under the guidance of Jacques Joyal and supported by partners, Tennis Canada, Tennis BC and KidSport, the program has expanded to include most schools on the Sunshine Coast.
Says Jacques Joyal, “Seeing kids learn the sport and watching them improve and love the game is the most satisfying aspect of coaching. It’s important that tennis clubs take an interest the way SRC has with our programs – and what better time than now, with Canadians doing so well on the international circuit? The inception of the Sponsorship Program at SRC will enable more youth to experience more tennis.”
For some success stories, see Why Kids Play Tennis. We’ve had some sound endorsements from members of the community:
Jana Benko, mother of Lorren and Heather, states: “We are extremely happy to see our girls, who train under supervision of exceptional coach, Jacques, developing deeper appreciation of sport, gaining more confidence and improving their tennis skills. We want to tell you how much our family enjoys this great tennis facility that is available, not only to members, but also to anybody who shares a love of tennis and wants to improve their game or start at the very beginning.”
“The Sunshine Coast Racquet Club offers great programs for youth and our son has excelled there and gained a true love of the sport through coaching offered at reasonable rates and group play,” says Steve Wright, father of Nigel.
